Indeed, there are several dog breeds that were selectively bred with the task of treeing in mind, so let’s discover more about the art of “treeing” and what it exactly entails. Turns out, not all dogs are born for the task and it takes a certain talent to excel in the art of treeing. Jukebox is a big name in them but I don't know specifics. It’s Wednesday Word Day! So we casually opened our encyclopedia and landed on a page featuring a tree, so we decided that today’s dog word of the day will be treeing! What do trees have to do with dogs? Well a whole lot when we discover what treeing dogs precisely do and their roles as working partners. They hunt for their master so it may have to bond with you before it really starts hunting. One thing that I read a lot is some mt curs have to get used to a new owner before they will hunt for them.

I'm no expert by any means but I have a Mt Cur and I spend a lot of time on a squirrel dog forum. some good some not so good.some too open some not long range at all.but most will stick to a track once they start it. I believe these would make good to excellent hog dogs.but breeding them to a larger, old style mtn cur just might make a heck of a hog dog.Īre you hunting yours on tree game? some mtn curs might not tree but will make some top notch hog dogs.just like hounds.some cull a hound because they don't tree bark or run silent on track.but they can make excellent hog dogs.īut mtn curs are like any other breed. they also win quite a bit in the competition curcuit. I always wanted a Jukebox bred mtn cur.some are small others are bigger and they hunt hard and get treed quick. I never tried to buy a smith streak bred dog.from what I have heard is that they are game getters and more hot nosed but fast hunters.they win a lot in the competition hunts.but I don't like them for hogs because they tend to be small. I do know that the jukebox is well known line, so is streak. Why did you say Mtn Cur? better talk to Reuben D came back by the same tree on our way back not 15 minutes later an i couldnt find the coon in the tree an the dog never found it either. for a second i was really excited because i shined the tree an their was a coon in it but he never did strike or whatever they call it in the tree dog world. he looks like he hunts super hard but he is a close hunter an he was behind me for a minute or so, so i stop an go back to him an he is trying to climb a tree. iv only had him out a couple times an im not happy with him really. on another note he said he got him from an old man an he would tree squirrels by day an coons by night. the guy said that jukebox is a big name an he has jukebox on both sides of his papers. i didnt really care that he was when i bought him or not but id like to know more about it. Anyone know about original mountain cur bloodlines ?
